away jobs
Build the future of work. From inside it.
away builds calm, wellness-first workspaces run without bosses. Most people who join us now join an away pod: a small, self-managed team working for one ambitious company from inside our centers. A few join to run away itself. Either way: bring judgment, taste and direction. Leave the politics at the door.
About away
Sanctuaries where real work happens
away is a design-led coworking brand. We build and run workspaces that feel more like a second home than an office: woody, light-filled, café-anchored, community-led. Wellness isn't a perk here; it's the design brief. Air quality, natural light, food, movement: every detail is tuned for a calm nervous system and a curious mind.
We're not a real estate company. We're a community company that happens to run beautiful spaces for founders, freelancers, small teams, and now for entire client teams we hire and host ourselves.
As systems absorb coordination and repetition, what remains is judgment, taste and direction. away is built for people doing that kind of work, and we hire accordingly.
The next era of work won't reward longer hours or bigger teams. It will reward clarity. from the away handbook
Why people work here
What you get that a normal job doesn't
You will actually matter
Small teams, high ownership. Decisions aren't filtered through three layers of management. They ship, get tested, and shape where things go, whether "things" is away or the company your pod serves.
No politics, no theatre
Radical transparency and direct communication. Titles don't win arguments here. Ideas do. If something is broken, you're expected to fix it or propose how to.
The work is real
Shipping product for ambitious companies. Launching new cities. Growing a brand from the ground up. You leave with a portfolio of outcomes, not slide decks.
You grow as the org grows
No ceiling, no permission required. Sense a gap or an opportunity? Propose it and own it. Roles here evolve with the person holding them.
The spaces are the product
You work from the spaces we build: woody, light-filled, café-anchored, with wellness and community built in. Your daily environment is what we sell.
A techno-optimist future
We think technology creates abundance, not anxiety. AI, decentralisation and new ways of organising work are tailwinds we ride, and we hire people who feel the same.
How we operate
A different operating system for work
away runs as a Teal organisation, inspired by Frederic Laloux's Reinventing Organizations. We don't have bosses. We have purpose, trust and peer accountability. In practice: fewer rules, more responsibility. More context, less control. Most organisations still run on older code.
Red
Power and fear. The chief decides.
Amber
Rigid hierarchy. Rules over people.
Orange
Targets and competition. Manage by numbers.
Green
Culture and consensus. People first, slowly.
Teal
Self-management, wholeness, evolutionary purpose.
Self-management
Authority lives at the edges, not the top. Whoever is closest to the issue decides, after seeking advice from those affected and those with expertise. Advice-seeking replaces permission-seeking. That's the whole trick.
Wholeness
You're a complete person here, mind, heart and spirit, not a resource. Emotional expression, creativity and vulnerability are welcome. You don't leave the best parts of yourself at the door.
Evolutionary purpose
Direction emerges from collective sensing (listening to people, members and the environment), not from top-down plans. If you feel a gap or spot an opportunity, that signal matters.
No top-down mandates
Nobody hands you a weekly to-do list. You understand the context, sense the need and act, consulting the peers your decision affects. What replaced hierarchy isn't chaos; it's consultation.
Open information flow
Meeting notes are accessible, financials are discussed openly, decisions are explained, not handed down. Knowledge isn't power here; sharing it is.
Conflict resolved directly
Tensions get addressed person to person first. Gossip and triangulation are explicitly discouraged. If that doesn't resolve it, peer mediation is next, not a manager's inbox.
Feedback is constant, not annual
No performance reviews. Feedback flows in real time, peer to peer, honest and kind in equal measure. You give it as much as you receive it.
Roles are fluid, not fixed
You'll hold multiple roles across circles depending on where you can contribute. Sense a gap? Propose a new role. Titles don't define you. Your work does.
Intrinsic motivation over incentives
No "if-then" bonuses. The drive comes from purpose, peer recognition and building something that matters. This is not for people who need a carrot.
Teal isn't something we've completed. We made six short films documenting what we understand so far. As we build, we learn, and we film it.
Watch the Teal series →away pods · the main track
Join a pod. Work for one company. Belong to away.
A pod is a small self-managed team (usually two to four people, in engineering, design, growth, ops or support) that away hires, houses and runs from an away center as one company's dedicated capability unit. Pods that keep growing become a Nano GCC: a 5 to 15+ person India operating cell. The company gets a team without setting up an entity, an office or a management layer. You get real ownership, a Teal culture, beautiful spaces and startup-grade work without the startup chaos.
Companies buy pods on our away pods page. People join them here. Pods currently run from Bangalore; Kolkata and Vizag follow as they mature.
Why people join pods
Work directly with an ambitious company
Your pod is that company's real team, shipping their product, owning their outcomes. No agency layer, no account managers, no telephone game.
No middle management
Pods run Teal inside: self-managed, peer-accountable, advice over permission. The company sets the mission; the pod decides how.
Peers you'll actually like
We match pods by values as much as skills. Small teams live or die on trust, so we take who sits next to you seriously.
The away environment, daily
Wellness-first design, the café, the community, the rituals. Startup intensity, sanctuary conditions.
Grow across pods over time
When a mission ends or you're ready for new problems, you don't resign. You move. Your home is away; your work evolves.

Life at away
The practical side of working here
From the handbook
"The handbook is you, me, and everyone else, continuously learning and reinventing what it means to work together." No single document captures every nuance. What makes this place thrive is your participation.
Flexible hours, outcomes first
We focus on results, not clock-in times. On-site roles currently run 10:30am–7:30pm. Non-site staff are moving away from fixed schedules as the model matures. Pods set their own rhythm with their client company.
Take the leave you need, responsibly
No fixed PTO bank. Communicate early, help cover for your circle, and take leave that works for the team. The trust runs both ways.
Fair and transparent pay
Compensation should be equitable and clearly understood, not decided behind closed doors. Some circles run peer-informed salary processes.
Rituals with rhythm
Check-ins at the start of gatherings. Weekly silent mornings and monthly stillness days. Off-sites, retreats and celebrations for milestones.
You live in the product
You work from the spaces we build: cafés, community events, wellness sessions. Your daily environment is what members pay for.
Early employee upside
We share the value we build together. Long-term team members are part of our equity and profit-sharing conversations.
An honest note
away is not for everyone, and that's the point
A good fit if you
- Take ownership without being asked to
- Are comfortable with ambiguity and fast iteration
- Communicate directly and assume good intent
- See technology as a tool for abundance, not a threat
- Want to shape something early and lasting
- Can give and receive candid feedback with grace
- Are energised by small teams with real stakes
Probably not a fit if you
- Need a manager to define your week for you
- Prefer rigid processes over adaptive ones
- Default to venting rather than solving
- Mistake criticism for conflict
- Are motivated mainly by titles or hierarchy
- Treat information as something to be guarded
- Aren't interested in reading or continuous learning
